Dr Robert McCartney
Rob is a physician who has specialised in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine for over 20 years. His career goal is to maximise the health, wellbeing and productivity of working people. He is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine with the Royal Australian College of Physicians and past president of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine. He has been an adjunct associate professor at Griffith University School of Human Services and Social Work. A passionate and highly experienced doctor with a track record of managing risk and solving problems at the worker/workplace interface. He has extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of occupational injury and illness as well as assisting individuals in returning to the workforce after health problems. Rob is a seasoned presenter and his well-developed interpersonal communication skills enable him to translate highly complex issues into readily digestible information for a wide range of audiences.

Lutheran Community Care with the assistance and oversight of Dr Rob McCartney (Occupational Physician) have implemented a suite of efficient and effective strategies to build a sustainable workforce with the right attributes and skills to work at the human interface. One of the solutions was the development of an innovative pre-employment risk assessment tool that provides evidence-based information in a timely and efficient manner enabling prompt decisions. Accurate real-time data enable better informed strategic workforce planning. Preliminary revealed that 15% of applicants as higher risk which raises questions about the existing workforce and risks around fitness for duty?
