User Security Awareness Training and Modern Desktop Management: – Covid isn’t the only virus! We will address the two critical components to secure your data when connecting from the work environment, home, anywhere.
With cybercriminals continually looking for new ways to gain access to your information, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic is proving an ideal environment to unleash further attacks. Lockdowns, remote working and stay-at-home orders have increased reliance on technology. Organisations have hastily adopted technologies like Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Virtual Private Networks (VPN) to allow their staff to continue to work and do so remotely. However, these technologies and remote working have opened up corporate and aged care environments to increased cybersecurity risk. Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS), spyware, digital fraud, ransomware attacks, vishing and phishing scams have all increased significantly since the start of the pandemic, raising the likelihood of a data or privacy breach. Phishing attacks alone can account for up to 90% of breaches in organisations and Aged Care is not immune.
This paper seeks firstly to examine some of the malicious activity types that cyber-criminals have been increasingly exploiting during the COVID-19 pandemic. Secondly, demonstrate that User Security Awareness Training (USAT) and Microsoft’s Modern Desktop Management work effectively to largely mitigate these risks. Making them the two critical components to secure your data when working from home, the work environment or anywhere.
This paper and presentation will be looking at solutions that can help reduce the risks that exist today and will help inform future risk-reduction strategies. While COVID-19 is a driver for examining these issues now, the reality is that the risks associated with these types of attacks are ever-present.
Keep safe, be safe.
