IAN HENSHCKE, CHIEF ADVOCATE, NATIONAL SENIORS

Biography:
Ian Henschke, Chief Advocate for National Seniors, is working to raise the profile of older Australians and strengthen their collective voice.  Before his present role he had a career as a teacher and then worked as a journalist for four decades, serving as a Director on the ABC Board and winning numerous awards including the inaugural Reuter’s Foundation Fellowship to Oxford in 1999. He continues to write a regular column for the SA Weekend magazine and has done so since it was launched in 2009.He was recognised for his ‘service to Australian society through broadcasting’ with the Centenary of Federation Medal.Ian was on the organising committee of the 2019 6th National Elder Abuse Conference: ‘Rock the Boat’ and is also an Ambassador for Advance Care Planning Australia and a member of its national advisory group.
